Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice from people that have done private English lessons or are doing private English lessons now, your help will be greatly appreciated.

As I have never done private lessons before I don't know a lot about how things should work.

1. Where do you usually run your lessons? At your home? At the students home? In a quiet coffee shop? Somewhere else?

2. How much is the going rate for private lessons?

3. What resources do you use for the lessons? I know about solutions books, which are great for school students but not for adults. I will most likely be teaching different age groups.

Any other advice that I haven't thought about would be great too.

Matt Paxman Lol nobody would do private lessons for 15 an hour. I charge 30 IF they come to me. If i go them it's more.

Huỳnh Trần Mai Phương Just for your information, in my previous English center in HCMC, it will be $20/ hour in average. So, I think you should ask for $22/ hour for a private lesson at home. And remember to consider the transportation fee if your house is far.

Tracy McKenzie Christian Krüper is that $40/hour or $40 per student/hour? Someone is putting together a class of 5 children, 2 hours/day , 3 days a week... how much should i charge per student/hr? Thanks!

Quoc Tang I experienced with my company here at nghenoitot.com someone came to ask one by one class 1 hour with our teachers and they say oh...it's expensive for 5$/hour, it's tough to sastify people ...

Cat Goodwin I charge between 20 - 30 $ per hour depending what they want and where I need to travel too. If its just speaking, and its nearby, I start at $20. If they want to practise all the skills it goes up. I've heard many a time Hanoi pays more for teachers both in schools and privately than HCMC.
